J.R. Rodrigues graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra (UC) in 1995. After a short period of secondary school teaching, he returned to UC, serving as NMR laboratory technician and research assistant from 1997 to 2004, where he collaborated in several research projects using NMR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations to study the behavior of proteins in solution. In 2004, he joined the Dep. of Environmental Engineering, School of Technology and Management, Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (ESTG/IPL) where he engaged in an ongoing project in environmental technology using alginate as a metal ions sorbent. In 2007, he earned an on-leave license from ESTG to pursue his PhD in Biomedical Research and Biotechnology, at the University of Extremadura, Spain, in the field of enzymology. He returned to teaching at ESTG in 2011 and finished his PhD thesis in 2013. He is currently Adjunct Professor, teaching at both ESTG and School of Health Sciences (ESS/IPL), and an Integrated Member of LSRE-LCM since January 2018.
