Sílvia Santos graduated in Chemical Engineering in 2004, completed a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering in 2009, at the Faculty of Engineering – University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal. Her doctoral research adressed the decolourization of textile dyehouse effluents using clays and waste materials as unconventional adsorbents. In 2009/2010, S. Santos was research fellow of the cross-border cooperation programme between Portugal and Spain “NATURA MIÑO-MINHO: Valorization of the natural resources of Miño/Minho basin”. From 2009 to 2013, she was Assistant Professor at School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. She collaborated with and was responsible for different courses of Civil Protection Bachelor, Environmental Engineering Bachelor and Master programmes, where she was also member of the pedagogic and scientific committee. S.Santos was involved in the supervision of undergraduate students, in projects related to local problems and centered on the water quality monitoring and also in teaching in “Environmental Management” Technological Specialization Courses (post-secondary). In 2014, she returned to LSRE-LCM Associate Laboratory and since then she has been working as postdoctoral fellow, especially on developing and implementing spectrophotometric and electroanalytical methodologies for arsenic and antimony analysis and on their removal from aqueous solution using natural and waste materials.
