Mónia A. R. Martins was born in 1989 in Alfândega da Fé, Portugal. She obtained her MSc degree in Chemical Engineering in 2012 from Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, Portugal.

During her Bachelor and Master degrees, Martins received an Integration Research Grant from FCT and was also awarded with two merit scholarships and one best student award.

She conducted her MSc thesis at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague, investigating the topic “Measurement of densities and speeds of sound in aqueous solutions of salts containing amino acids”.

She completed her PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2017 at the University of Aveiro during which she spent six months at the Warsaw University of Technology and University of Campinas respectively.

Mónia A. R. Martins is currently working a Pos-doc at the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, Portugal, studying the extraction, purification and bioavailability of nutraceuticals.
