Life beyond the Lab... LSRE-LCM Researcher becomes the National Women Chess Champion 2018

September 10, 2018

Ariana Pintor, Postdoctoral Researcher at LSRE-LCM, won the National Women’s Chess Championship 2018, which took place in Braga this September. This is the first time she conquers this title, after placing second for three times in 2006, 2014 and 2017. Ariana had previously been nine-time girls National Chess Champion in several youth categories from 1998 to 2007, and had represented Portugal as a part of the women’s team in four Chess Olympiads from 2004 to 2010.

In parallel with her chess career, Ariana joined LSRE-LCM in 2010 for her Master’s thesis, and completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering in the same lab in 2014, with the thesis entitled “Use of cork byproducts as sorbents for oil and grease removal from industrial wastewaters” under the supervision of Professor Rui Boaventura, Professor Cidália Botelho and Doctor Vítor Vilar. Nowadays, she is part of the team as a Postdoctoral Researcher under the guidance of Professor Cidália Botelho under the topic “Cork granulates: Natural and innovative sorbents for micropollutants removal”, which aims to expand the scope of application of cork granulates for water decontamination.

Staff and team of LSRE-LCM congratulates Ariana Pintor!
