Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics

Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics is a research line which uses the general concepts of Applied Thermodynamics for different separation and reaction processes. The main interest is in the application to Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry. The team has a very extensive and world recognized experience in both experimental measurements of different types of phase equilibria (vapor-liquid, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid equilibria and Aqueous Two-Phase Systems) and modeling with excess Gibbs energy models and equations of state. Research activities are targeted to the development of new predictive methodologies that will enable to support the design of new separation processes using environmental benign solvents (ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents). The characterization of these solvents is a fundamental task for the purposes to be achieved.
