Maria José Lima graduated in Biomedical Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança in 2009. In the final year of her BSc study, she was granted with a BII scholarship in the area of biomechanics simulation and 3D reconstruction. She completed her Master degree in Micro/Nanotechnologies at the University of Minho in 2012. The dissertation work, during 1 year, was performed at the 3B’s Research Group in the area of micro and nano features in polymeric membranes for tissue engineering applications.

After the academic studies, she was a trainee responsible for the implementation of quality assurance guidelines in a hometown company.

From November 2012 to May 2014 she worked as Research Fellow under the project “SolarNETmix - Solar-Driven Catalytic NETmix® Reactor”. In June 2014, she started her PhD studies at Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM focused on the selective photocatalytic conversions integrated in microfluidic devices using carbon nitride as metal-free catalyst. In 2017 she performed a three month research stay at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Bath. In February 2019, she finished the PhD and started a new opportunity as a Research Fellow in LSRE-LCM. Currently, she is working on the application of NETmix® reactor for process intensification of the photocatalytic synthesis of high-value added chemicals.
