M. Fernando R. Pereira is Full Professor at FEUP. He obtained his PhD in 1998 in Chemical Engineering from FEUP. R&D manager of CITEVE (1998–2000). In 2000 he returned to FEUP as an assistant professor and joined the LCM (later LSRE-LCM). Head of the Chemical Engineering Department since 2018, former director of the Integrated Master in Environmental Engineering (2013-19), elected Member of the National College of Chemical and Biological Engineering of the Portuguese Engineers Association since 2013, Vice-President of the Carbon Group of SPQ since 2018, representative of Portugal in the International Association of the Catalysis Communities (IACS) Council since 2018 and in the European Carbon Association since 2019. He was awarded the “Medalha Vicente Seabra” in 2008 by SPQ, and “Prémio de Excelência Científica” in 2013 and 2018 by FEUP.

His main research interests are heterogeneous catalysis, carbon materials, environment, energy, biomass Conversion, chemical Reaction engineering, functional materials and smart textiles. In these areas, he has supervised 20 PhD (13 concluded) and 70 master students; coordinated 21 R&D projects and participated in other 23; published 290 scientific papers in ISI journals, 9 book chapters, more than 300 presentations in scientific meetings and 3 patents pending. The total number of citations is 15760, and the H-index is 63 (Scopus, 10/2020).
