Mário Rui P. F. N. Costa graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1978 and joined the Department of Chemical Engineering of FEUP as Teaching Assistant. In 1979 he started his post-graduate studies in École Nationale Supérieure des Indsustries Chimiques (ENSIC), one of the seven engineering schools ('grande école') belonging to Institut Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), Nancy, France. Working under the supervison of late Prof. Jacques Villermaux, he obtained in 1983 the degree of Docteur-ès-Sciences Physiques, specialty Chemical Engineering, later recognized as equivalent to Ph.D. at University of Porto. Since then he works in FEUP where he pursues his teaching first as Assistant and later (since 1990) Associate Professor and research career in LSRE-LCM.
