After completing the MSc in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in September 2008, Rui Faria started his professional activity working as a Process Engineer in Fluidinova, Engenharia de Fluídos, SA. and integrating the team responsible for the start-up and optimization of an industrial plant for the production hydroxyapatite nanoparticles for medical devices. In 2010 he returned to FEUP to proceed with his studies, obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 2014 with the preparation of the thesis entitled "Glycerol valorisation as biofuel: Glycerol acetals production by Simulated Moving Bed Reactor". The research undertaken during his Doctoral Program was conducted at the LSRE-LCM under the supervision of Prof. Alírio Rodrigues and Dr. Carla Pereira. Since then he has been working as a post-doctoral researcher at the LSRE-LCM participating in several research projects, initiating a few scientific collaborations and being responsible for the supervision and training of young researchers.
