Sílvia Santos graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 2004. She completed the PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering in 2009 at the same institution, with a thesis on the decoulorization of textile wastewater by adsorption on clays and residues and by integrated adsorption-biological techniques. From 2009 to 2013, she was Assistant Professor at School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. Since 2014, S. Santos is Postdoctoral Fellow in LSRE-LCM (Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering - Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials). S.Santos has been working in various projects, including Natura Miño-Minho (2009/10), Environmental Technologies (ON.2) (2014/15), BIOCritical Metals (2016/19) and AIProcMat@N2020 (2016/19). She is currently financed by an FCT Postdctoral fellowship (SFRH/BPD/117387/2016) to develop research on the synthesis of tannin adsorbents and coagulants for environmental applications. Her research interests include adsorption, natural-derived adsorbents, water and wastewater treatment, recovery of critical raw materials, biorefinery, spectrometric and electroanalytical techniques, metalloids speciation and surface water quality monitoring and modelling. S. Santos has published 21 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 4 chapters in books of international circulation and is author of 20 communications presented in scientific meetings. She has been involved in the supervision of PhD and MSc theses (9 MSc and 1 PhD completed; 1 ongoing PhD) and internships from mobility students.
