Ana Isabel Gomes (AIG) graduated in Biology in 2003 from the Faculty of Science at the University of Porto (FCUP). She also holds a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (2007) and a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2021) from the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP). Additionally, in 2008, she became a certified Occupational Hygiene and Safety (OHS) Superior Technician with expertise in implementing and auditing integrated management systems for Quality, Environment, and OHS.
AIG completed her PhD with cum Laude distinction, focusing on multistage strategies for leachate treatment, as part of the AdvancedLFT project. After her PhD, she contributed to projects such as NOR-WATER (INTERREG) and HealthyWaters, where she focused on removing contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) from wastewater using advanced oxidation processes and membrane technology.
Since 2023, AIG has been employed as a junior researcher at LSRE-LCM, ALiCE, FEUP, where she assists with projects related to wastewater technologies, treatment, and reuse - SERPIC (ERA-NET), BlueWWater (INTERREG), and NEWater (Water4All) - as well as providing consultancy services.
AIG has published more than 20 ISI papers and presented at numerous conferences. She also assists with lab and seminar classes and mentors or co-supervises MSc and PhD students. Additionally, AIG is actively involved in dissemination activities, organizing international events, and participating in outreach programs.
