José Melo Órfão graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1976. In 1977, he joined the Department of Chemical Engineering of FEUP as Teaching Assistant. In the early 1980s, he started doing research on catalysis at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials, and in 1987 he obtained his doctorate in Chemical Engineering at FEUP, with the thesis Deposition and gasification of catalytic carbon on metallic surfaces. Presently, José Melo Órfão is Associate Professor at FEUP and Senior Researcher at LSRE-LCM. He was awarded by FEUP with the “Prémio de Excelência Pedagógica” corresponding to the academic years from 2008/2009 to 2012/2013.
