Professor José Luís Figueiredo, Emeritus Professor at FEUP and member of ALiCE and LSRE-LCM, was elected effective member of the 3rd section - Chemistry of the Science Class of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon (ACL – Academia de Ciências de Lisboa), in the plenary session of Effective Members of the Science Class, held on May 25, 2023.
ACL is one of the oldest national scientific institutions in continuous existence. Founded in 1779, ACL maintains uninterrupted activities for the promotion, dissemination and sharing of knowledge in the fields of science and humanities. It conserves and enhances the rich heritage in its custody, making its collections available for open access. Its mission includes independent scientific advice on crucial matters for the country's development.
The LSRE-LCM research group proudly announces that the C—Journal of Carbon Research 2023 Best Paper Award was granted to the review article entitled “Towards controlled degradation of poly(lactic) acid in technical applications” authored by Stefanie Teixeira, Katarzyna Morawa Eblagon (corresponding author), Filipa Miranda, M. Fernando R. Pereira and José Luis Figueiredo. The research team meticulously explored and analysed the controlled degradation and biodegradation of poly(lactic) acid (PLA) in technical applications, including the main mechanisms of PLA degradation, such as its biodegradation in water, soil and compost, in addition to thermal degradation and photodegradation. The Best Paper Award recognizes the outstanding contribution of this review article to advancing knowledge and promoting further exploration of sustainable materials.
Congratulations to the team!
