Eliana Da Silva, Cláudia G. Silva and Joaquim L. Faria (Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM, Departamento de Engenharia Química, Faculdade de Engenharia, Universidade do Porto) are the authors of a scientific publication that was featured as the cover of the ChemSusChem.
The cover feature shows a simple, green and scalable approach to prepare holey and distorted C-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets from dicyandiamide and b-cyclodextrin. This compound plays a crucial role in doping and introducing pores in g-C3N4, giving rise to a distorted structure with midgap states. These features contribute to enhance visible light absorption and create a new pathway for electron mobility, boosting the photocatalytic performance for H2 generation from water under solar activation.

The Grupo de Fotoquímica of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Química (SPQ) and the Grupo Especializado de Fotoquimica (GRUFO) of the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ) organized the VIth Jornadas Ibéricas de Fotoquímica (6'JIF) that took place at University of Aveiro from September 12th to 14th, 2018.
Eliana S. Da Silva (Postodoctoral Researcher) was prized with the Best Poster Award attributed by the International Scientific Committee of the “VIth Jornadas Ibéricas de Fotoquímica”.
The work presented at this conference entitled “g-C3N4/Zn2Al-LDH 2D/2D heterojunction for light-induced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution” is a result of a joint collaboration with researchers from several institutions, namely Claudia H. Swanson (Institut für Chemie, Otto-von-Guericke, Universität de Magdeburg, Germany), Manuel Prieto (CQFM-IN and IBB; Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal), Ana Coutinho (CQFM-IN and IBB; Instituto Superior Técnico and Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal) and Joaquim L. Faria (Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM, Departamento de Engenharia Química, Faculdade de Engenharia, Universidade do Porto).
LA LSRE-LCM congratulates Eliana for the award received at 6´JIF!
