The XIX edition of JEQ (Jornadas de Engenharia Química) organized by MIEQ students took place at FEUP on 14-15th November, under the theme ‘Chemical Engineering towards Sustainability’.
The LSRE-LCM participated in the Networking session that closed the event. A group of researchers was present to exchange with MIEQ students their research experience and to help on clarifying their doubts about the research lines carried out at this research unit.
This last edition of JEQ counted with 300 participants.

The second edition of the International Meeting on New Strategies in Bioremediation Processes - BioRemid2019 - was hosted by the FEUP and took place at Biblioteca Almeida Garret in Porto during the 24th and 25th October 2019, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through LSRE-LCM, LEPABE and CERENA Research Units.
The objective of this meeting was successfully achieved, by bringing together scientists and industry professionals in a friendly environment to share the latest developments and innovations to face environmental problems. In particular, topics such as identification and monitoring of biohazards, strategies to remediate sites polluted with emerging and priority pollutants, consortium-based strategies, the impact of anthropogenic activities on the native microbial communities, new treatment technologies and waste recovery, were discussed.
This event counted with over 140 participants. Two plenary lectures, seven keynote lectures, 18 oral communications, 9 short oral communications and 93 posters were presented during BioRemid2019. The 3 best short oral communications presented by young researchers were awarded with three prizes sponsored by Spanish Society of Microbiology (Silver Sponsor), LIPOR and Adventech companies (Gold sponsors). In addition, BioRemid2019 hosted an open-to-the-public event, which could count on the expertise of Prof. Kenneth Timmis, who delivered a lecture about the Microbiology Literacy Initiative.
As part of the commitment of LSRE-LCM to support this kind of initiatives, several researchers were involved in the organization and support of this event.
