The Cost Action Water4Reuse - Mainstreaming water reuse into the circular economy paradigm, has been recently approved by the Cost European Cooperation in Science and Technology. This project, set to run from 2024 to 2028, aims to revolutionize water management through interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration.
LSRE-LCM researchers Vítor Vilar and Ana Rita Ribeiro will serve as members of the Management Committee, contributing with their expertise to the project’s success.
Water4Reuse seeks to integrate the entire wastewater treatment chain to enhance water management. The project will focus on: recycling and reusing treated wastewater and by-products, addressing territorial, health, social, economic, and environmental constraints and promoting sustainable practices through innovative solutions.
This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable water resource management and the circular economy.
The Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering – Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (LSRE-LCM) was present at this year's Encontro de Ciência, the largest annual scientific gathering in Portugal, organized by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
As part of the Associate Laboratory ALiCE, LSRE-LCM hosted an exhibition table to showcase their latest research innovations and projects.
In addition to their exhibition presence, ALiCE/LSRE-LCM was also featured prominently in the event’s plenary sessions. Principal Researcher Ana Rita Ribeiro delivered a compelling presentation at one of the plenary sessions, titled “Uma só Saude” moderated by Alexandre Quintanilha and shared with 5 distinguished academics. Her presentation focused on her work with emerging contaminants and emphasised the need for a multi-sectoral approach, in addition to preventive measures, to reduce the contaminants levels and mitigate their impact on the environment and human health.
Encontro de Ciência 2024, held at Alfândega do Porto from July 3-5, 2024, brought together researchers and industry leaders from various disciplines, fostering collaboration and the exchange of knowledge.
