LSRE-LCM congratulates Ana Raquel Almeida Fernandes for her PhD thesis defense approved by the jury.
On December 14th, 2020 Ana Raquel finished the Doctoral Program in Chemical and Biological Engineering, with the PhD thesis entitled "Design of optical semiconductors optimized for photocatalytic organic synthesis" supervised by Professor Cláudia G. Silva and co-supervised by Professor Joaquim L. Faria and Doctor Maria J. Sampaio.

The NanoPurAsp project - Development of sustainable nanomaterials for the purification of antileukemic drugs (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031268), coordinated by CICECO - University of Aveiro (Doctor Ana Paula Tavares) in collaboration with LSRE-LCM/FEUP (Cláudia G. Silva and Joaquim L. Faria) and São Paulo State University (Professor Valéria Ebinuma) was featured in Newsletter nº 276 of Compete 2020.
The NanoPurAsp focuses on the production of L-asparaginase by fermentation and the development of an economically viable and sustainable process of purification of this biopharmaceutical used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), malignant blood disease and one of the common types of cancer in children.
