The staff and team of LSRE-LCM congratulate Jonathan Espíndola for the conclusion of this important academic step and wish success for the new professional stage!

Techtextil Innovation Award 2019 - "new material" to Project Cork-a-tex Yarn

May 31, 2019

The jury of "Techtextil Innovation Award" decided to award the Project "Cork-A-Tex Yarn. Yarn with high incorporation of cork" with the TECHTEXTIL INNOVATION AWARD 2019 award in the "new material" category, one of 7 categories in competition, and considered the most important prize.

The awards ceremony took place together with the official Opening of Techtextil and Texprocess 2019 on May 14th 2019, organized by Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH.

Techtextil is the leading international fair for technical and non-fabrics textiles, the largest and most recognized international event in this field and its awards are coveted by all who do Research and Innovation in this area.

The Techtextil Innovation Award 2019 - "new material" is one of the most important recognitions that the yarn developed under the Project "Cork-a-tex Yarn" could have received.

For the first time, a Portuguese Project wins this prestigious world award!

Although we must add this award the fact that it was the only one of the seven award-winning products highlighted in the speech of the President of the jury, the Belgian Jan Laperre "Our task is easier when products like cork-yarn appear. Not only is it a natural product, but also it adds insulation and thermal properties to the yarn. It is a magnificent example of a circular economy, as it takes advantage of the waste of the cork industry and is an excellent example of research in the sector”, he said.

The Cork-a-tex Yarn is a co-promotion demonstration project, promoted by SEDACOR - Sociedade Exportação de Produtos de Cortiça, Lda in partnership with the company Têxteis Penedo S.A., and with two entities of the Scientific and Technological System: CITEVE (Technological Centre for the Textile and Clothing Industries of Portugal) and the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, through the Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM, under the coordination of Professor Fernando Pereira.

Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM congratulates the team, companies and I&D Units, involved in this projet for the award considered the World's Largest Textile Innovation Award!
